Counterattack 2020
White Rock
2020-11-30 11:28 PST
White Rock RCMP are ramping up their efforts to cut down on impaired driving, during the month of December. While the pandemic may have changed society’s social gatherings and routines, one thing it has not changed is our zero tolerance for impaired driving
, says Constable Chantal Sears. We understand we are in unprecedented times and the stresses are different this year. We are asking for gatherings to be virtual, and should you use alcohol, cannabis or recreational street drugs, please do so at home and stay home
.
As a safety precaution, all of our RCMP officers will be wearing masks and will be sanitizing equipment roadside after usage.
White Rock RCMP officers will be conducting random roadblocks with additional officers on duty, stopping vehicles throughout the month of December. Additional drug recognition experts (DRE’s) will be on shift, removing drivers impaired by drugs including cannabis.
If you’re caught driving impaired, you could face these penalties:
• Driving suspensions from 24 hours to 90 days.
• Vehicle impoundment.
• Fines, from $600 and up to $4,060.
• Jail time.
• Mandatory rehabilitation.
• Installation of ignition interlock in your vehicle.
