On September 15, 2023, officers of BC Highway Patrol – Capital Regional District – Integrated Road Safety Unit (BCHP-CRD-IRSU) teamed up with the Saanich Police Traffic Safety Unit and ICBC in a joint effort to identify distracted drivers on McKenzie Ave near Borden St in Saanich. The enforcement operation resulted in:
- 50 electronic device violations;
- 8 seatbelt violations;
- 11 other violations;
- 5 notices for vehicle-related defects.
Staff Sergeant Adam Tallboy, acting OIC of BC Highway Patrol on Vancouver Island said,
We welcome the opportunity to work with our partners to make our highways safer together. Driving is a complex, multi-tasking operation that requires the undivided attention of the driver. To that end, we remind road users to please leave your phone alone, keep your eyes forward and drive safely.
September is distracted driving and occupant restraint awareness month in BC. Police agencies across the province continue to focus their enforcement efforts on these dangerous driving behaviours.
