School Zones back in effect Tuesday September 6th, 2022

White Rock

2022-08-31 08:19 PDT

As the days get shorter, many children in White Rock are getting ready to head back to school! Every school day, unless otherwise posted, a 30 km/h speed limit is in effect in school zones from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Schools are back in session next Tuesday, September 6th, 2022.
White Rock RCMP remind the public that the school zones surround Peace Arch Elementary at 15877 Roper Avenue, and White Rock Elementary located at 1273 Fir Street. Volunteers and additional police officers will be out throughout the first week of school to increase school zone safety for students.

School resource officer Chantal Sears reminds drivers even if school is only in session for a couple of hours, the school zone is in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children will be excited to get to school, meet up with their friends and may be distracted when crossing the street. The playgrounds will be busy throughout the day. We need drivers to slow down, drive the speed limit and be extra vigilant around schools.

She also dispels the myth that being pulled over the first week will result in a warning Officers always have discretion, however; we take speeding in a school zone seriously and violation tickets may be issued to drivers who drive faster than 30km/h. There is no grey zone. 45 km/h in a school zone is not ok. It’s 30km/h or less.

Violation tickets for speeding in a school zone start at $196 with 3 points.
