On Friday, April 14, 2023, at 8:44 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a distressed 36-year-old Nelson woman who had allegedly purchased the wrong kind of drug visiting Trail, BC.

An officer located the woman in the 1100 block of Bay Avenue. The woman told the officer that she believed she had purchased cocaine; however, she received another kind of drug instead and was not used to its effects. The woman’s symptoms continue to escalate into severe drug psychosis, paranoid, and running onto a busy roadway in the presence of the officer.
The officer took the woman into custody and transported her to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Police request assistance in stolen off-road motorcycle investigation

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 7:09 a.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that two blue Yamaha off-road motorcycles valued at $22,778.00 were stolen from the property of the Glacier Edge Motorsports located at 1470 Highway 3B, in Fruitvale, BC. The theft was believed to have occurred between 4:19 a.m. and 6:22 a.m., according to information received from the business.

An officer attended the scene, conducted an examination and seized evidence. Surveillance footage of the incident captured the incident will be reviewed by an investigator. A gray truck and two suspects are believed to be involved in the crime.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information that will lead to the arrest of the two suspects involved, is asked to contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

Trail RCMP and the business owner would like to recover the two stolen motorcycles worth over $22,000.00. This is a local small business, and this theft has hit them hard financially. Says Sgt. Wicentowich

Single motor vehicle incident and suspected impaired driving

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 8:41 a.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and EHS responded to a single motor vehicle incident on Highway 3B near Genelle, BC. A 49-year-old Vancouver man was located at the scene with minor injuries from the incident. His 2016 Chevrolet Malibu had travelled off the side of the road, rolled down a steep embankment, and crashed into trees before catching fire.

The officer made observations that led her to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into an investigation. The officer read a demand to the man who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail. The man was then transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and cleared medically. The investigation into the man’s alleged impaired driving continued once medical staff medically cleared him.

Trail RCMP will be forwarding a report requesting criminal charges related to this incident to Provincial Crown Counsel. The 49-year-old Trail man will make his first appearance on July 20, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.

Impaired driving by a drug

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers were conducting a routine patrol when they observed a 26-year-old Fruitvale man in a 2006 GMC Sierra truck leaving a licenced establishment and speeding along Highway 3B, in Fruitvale, BC.

The officer detained the man and his vehicle roadside. The officer made observations that led him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drug.

The 26-year-old Fruitvale man was issued a 24-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

"Coffee with a Cop event on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

Coffee with a Cop event will be held on Thursday April 27th 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at the Bridgeview Café located at 1290 Esplanade Avenue, in Trail, BC. Those who attend the event who will get a chance to interact with RCMP officers Constable Winthrope & Constable Nickel in a non-formal setting which can help break down barriers and help form relationships within the community. It also gives the community an opportunity to get to know the police that serve them. The event may last up to 3 hours and will provide time for anyone interested to have a discussion with local officers.
