Impaired driver gets caught again within 24 hours of issued driving prohibition

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 12:00 a.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a routine patrol in the 700 block of Victoria Street, in Trail, BC, when he spotted a 33-year-old Fruitvale man asleep in the driver seat of his parked 2011 Chevrolet truck. The truck engine was running at the time of the incident. When the officer with his flashlight approach the driver and truck to check on him, the man woke up and spoke with the officer. The officer made observations that led him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by a drug.

The officer entered into an investigation. The officer read a demand to the man who then allegedly did not pass standard field roadside sobriety tests. The 33-year-old Fruitvale man was issued a 24-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

On Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 9:00 p.m., the officer was conducting a routine patrol on Highway 3B near McBride Street when he spotted the 33-year-old Fruitvale man driving his 2011 Chevrolet truck stopped at a red light at the intersection. The officer detained the man and his truck roadside for an investigation. The officer arrested the man for driving while prohibited contrary to Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and impounded the truck for 7 days.

The 33-year-old Fruitvale, BC man will make his first appearance on July 22, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.

Crash leads to impaired investigation

On Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 3:35 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a truck that had crash through a fence after driving off Bluebird Road in Fruitvale, BC. The truck was reportedly stuck in a ditch at the time of the report.

The officer located a 70-year-old Beaver Valley man asleep in his truck at the reported location. The officer was able to rouse the man and communicate with him. The officer made observations that led him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

The officer entered into an investigation. The officer read a demand to the man who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail. The officer transported and lodged the man into the Trail Detachment cellblock overnight until he was sober.
The matter remains under criminal investigation.

Man assaulted by three men in Trail alley

On Sunday April 23, 2023, at 9:00 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a 49-year-old Trail man was assaulted by three men in the alley in the 900 block of Spokane Street, in Trail, BC. The officer located the man who had sustained serious injuries on the ground in the alley. The man said he was assaulted by 52-year-old Trail man and two accomplices when he was taking his garbage out to the dumpster in the alley. The man was allegedly punch in the head several times, may have lost consciousness, and had a serious shoulder injury. The man was transported for medical treatment to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

An officer located the 52-year-old Trail man and arrested him. He will make his first appearance on June 22, 023, in Provincial Court, in Trail, BC.

The victim and attacker were known to each other. The other two men remain outstanding at this time. Trail RCMP continues to investigate the incident.

Trail RCMP is requesting anyone with information who witnessed the attack, or knows the identity of the two outstanding suspects, contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to the investigator.

Update:

On November 30, 2023, Trail and Greater District RCMP received endorsed warrants of arrest for Assault Causing Bodily Harm contrary to Section 267 of the Criminal Code for:

• Gregory James Ferraby (53) of Trail, BC;
• Richard James Morris (48) of Trail, BC;
• Wesley James Parsons (43) of Warfield, BC.

In relation to the above mentioned incident.

All three men have turned themselves into the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP and will make their first appearance on December 7, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.

All three individuals work for the local fire department; however, this incident in not connected to their employment.

Coffee with a Cop event on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

Coffee with a Cop event will be held on Thursday April 27th, 2023 at 9:00 a.m., at the Bridgeview Café located at 1290 Esplanade Avenue, in Trail, BC. Those who attend the event who will get a chance to interact with RCMP officers Constable Winthrope & Constable Nickel in a non-formal setting which can help break down barriers and help form relationships within the community. It also gives the community an opportunity to get to know the police that serve them. The event may last up to 3 hours and will provide time for anyone interested to have a discussion with local officers.
