Intoxicated youth hospitalized after excessive alcohol consumption

On Friday, May 26, 2023, at 10:01 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of a 13-year-old Fruitvale youth located unresponsive in a bathroom at the Beaver Valley May Days Festival located on Columbia Garden Road, in Fruitvale, BC. The girl allegedly consumed an excessive amount of alcohol with her friend over the course of the night before falling unconscious, which prompted a call to 911. The girl had regained consciousness by the time the officers arrived.

Officers contacted the parent of the girl who took her to the hospital for a medical assessment.

Trail RCMP is thankful that we were able to intervene in this situation before it took a more serious turn. Parents, please take some time to talk to your kids about personal responsibility when unsupervised by an adult and the dangers of alcohol, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Saturday is not alright for fighting

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 7:42 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of an allegedly intoxicated 54-year-old Fruitvale man causing a disturbance and attempting to start a fight with other patrons at the Beaver Valley May Days Festival located on Columbia Gardens Road, in Fruitvale, BC. Festival staff had ejected the man; however, attempted to return onto the grounds to fight as police arrived. An officer arrested the man for causing a disturbance and being drunk in a public place.

The officer lodged the man into the cellblock at the Trail Detachment, and released him when sober.

Shout shout he let it all out

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 9:00 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District officers conducted a foot patrol on the Beaver Valley May Days Festival grounds located on Columbia Garden Roads, in Fruitvale, BC, when an intoxicated 31-year-old Fruitvale man allegedly began shouting obscenities at the officers. The officers suggested the man calm down and return to his group of friends. His friends also tried to calm the man down but to no avail. When the officers approach the man to resolve the situation, he attempted to run away only to be stopped by an off-duty officer.

An officer arrested the man for causing a disturbance and for being drunk in a public place. The man actively resistive during his arrest; however, was eventually lodged into the cellblock at the Trail Detachment without serious incident.

The man was held overnight and released when sober. An officer issued the 31-year-old Fruitvale man a $115 fine for being intoxicated in a public place contrary to Section 74(1) of the BC Liquor Control and Licencing Act upon his release.

I am not sure what his ultimate goal was, and I am not sure if he knew either, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Impaired driving in Fruitvale

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:21 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked vehicle when he observed a 43-year-old Fruitvale woman driving her 2002 Ford Ranger and cross into his driving lane on Bluebird Road, in Fruitvale, BC. The officer had to quickly swerve to avoid a collision. The officer detained the woman and her vehicle roadside.

During the roadside interaction, the officer made observations that lead him to believe that the woman’s ability to drive was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into an impaired driving investigation. A demand was read to the woman who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.

The 43-year-old Fruitvale woman was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and had her vehicle impounded for up to 30 days.

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:50 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked vehicle when she observed a 44-year-old Montrose man driving his 2007 Chevrolet Impala erratically on Columbia Gardens Road, in Fruitvale, BC. The officer detained the man and his vehicle roadside.

During the roadside interaction, the officer made observations that lead her to believe that the man’s ability to drive was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into an impaired driving investigation. A demand was read to the man who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.

Break, enter, thefts in Trail: Smash and grab from liquor store

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 4:18 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a commercial alarm at a liquor store in the 1600 block of Second Avenue, in Trail, BC. A suspect smashed the glass to the front door and entered the business. The suspect took stole several bottle of liquor before fleeing the scene.

An officer attended the scene and conducted an investigation. He located a bag containing several bottle of liquor hidden a short distance from the scene of the crime. The value of the liquor was approximately $900. The officer suspected the bag was too heavy for the thief to make a timely escape and may have represented a significant part of the items stolen.

The suspect was wearing a beige coat, blue hat, with his face covered, and blue latex gloves. A witness was interviewed about the incident by the officer. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 4:04 a.m. a suspect broke into a business and stole two parcels in the 1200 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC. The content of the parcels is currently unknown. On Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 3:06 a.m. a second suspect broke into the business and stole a digital media receiver worth approximately $100.

A Trail RCMP officer was notified about the incidents. The business had been left unsecured overnight.

The investigation is going.

On Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 11:38 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that $500 in cash had been stolen from a business in the 1300 block of Bay Avenue, in downtown Trail, BC. The business had been left unsecured overnight.

Trail RCMP asks business owners to make sure their buildings are secure, surveillance is working, and to respond to alarm triggers if they occur. These crimes can be challenging to prevent and solve if the police only learn about them after the fact, says Sgt. Wicentowich
