Seasonal bike patrol helps connect police to community and increase student safety

Connecting to community and helping to keep students safe was the focus of Sea to Sky Squamish RCMP members during their first seasonal bike patrol in downtown areas, Squamish Nation lands, and school zones.

The Crime Reduction Unit-Squamish and Integrated First Nations Unit members got on their bikes today to patrol different local areas, and also did a school zone speed check.

Utilizing bike patrol is a way of maintaining a strong connection to our community, says Corporal Angela Kermer, Sea to Sky RCMP. Also, school zone enforcement remains a priority given the end of school year is approaching and students and drivers alike may have their minds on things other than what’s in front of them.

During a school zone speed check, members checked about 60 cars, and issued a number of warnings and violation tickets.

Police remind drivers that local school speed zones are in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m on any school day.
