Two stolen vehicles in Trail area

On Friday, June 13, 2023, at 7:09 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District officer received a report that a black 2008 Ford Focus had been stolen overnight from a residence in the 400 block of Rossland Avenue, in Trail, BC. A witness discovered the vehicle was later near Violin Lake Road, in Warfield, BC. An officer attended the location and recovered the vehicle.
Trail RCMP continues to investigate this incident.

On Friday, June 16, 2023, at 6:03 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District officer received a report that a truck had been stolen from a residence on Ritchie Avenue, in Trail, BC.
Shortly after the initial report, a witness observed the truck driving erratically while northbound on Highway 22 and called police. The witness followed the truck to a location in Genelle. He saw the man driving the truck parked it before the man and two passengers exited. An officer attended the location and recovered the stolen truck. The officer also detained and identified the 31-year-old man suspected to be driving the stolen truck who was near the area of recovery.
The truck towed to the Trail Detachment. Nelson RCMP Forensic Identification Section has conducted an examination of the truck.
Trail RCMP continues to investigate this incident.
A vehicle stolen from Nelson, BC, was recovered in Trail over the weekend in a third incident within the last week. Please lock your vehicle and do not store your keys inside, as the Trail and Greater District area is likely to experience a further rash of car thefts. Modern vehicles are nearly impossible to steal without having a set of keys and securing your keys is your best defense against being a victim of crime.

Break, Enter, Thefts in downtown Trail

On June 17, 2023, at 5:40 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a break, enter, and theft to a business in the 1300 block of Cedar Avenue, in Trail, BC.
A suspect smashed a large glass window, entered the building, and stole an electric scooter from inside the business. A witness who had located the electric scooter a short distance away notified the officer. The officer recovered the scooter then returned it to the business. The officer detained a 36-year-old Kelowna man for questioning while investigating the crime.

On Saturday, July 17, 2023, at 8:40 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers received a report of a break, enter, and theft to a business in the 1400 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC.
The suspect smashed the glass to the front door of the business and stole a small amount of cash from the register before fleeing the area. Police noted that the front door has been smashed in a separate incident prior to this one.

On Sunday, at 6:02 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers received a report of an attempted break and enter into the rear door of a business in the 1400 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC. The complaint informed police that this was the second attempt in two weeks that someone tried to enter the business.
Trail RCMP continues to investigate all three incidents. We ask business owners to secure their premises, install surveillance video if feasible, and take other precautions to prevent and deter theft like good lighting and not storing cash on premise. We ask the public to be vigilant and report on suspicious activity occurring in the downtown Trail core when observed.

Investigation started from scratch

On June 18, 2023, at 6:52 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District officers responded to a complaint of a naked man near the intersection of Hazelwood Drive and Hilllside Drive, in Trail, BC.
The officers located the 36-year-old Trail man who informed police that he had taken his clothes off to scratch his rash located in a highly sensitive area. The man was cooperative with police when asked to clothe himself and leave the area.
The officers advised to seek medical attention for his skin condition.
Please do not remove all your clothes in public if you are itchy. That is not how that problem is solved.

Prohibited driver with no valid insurance

On Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 10:39 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when he detained a 22-year-old Trail woman driving in the 1000 block of Victoria Avenue, in Trail, BC.
The officer discovered the woman was allegedly prohibited from driving a motor vehicle in BC and her vehicle did not have valid insurance.
The officer issued the 22-year-old Trail woman a 3-month driving prohibition under Section 93 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, $598 fine for having no insurance on her vehicle contrary to Section 24 of BC MVA, and a $ 109 fine for failing to change her address on her licence contrary to Section 31 of the BC MVA.
