Bones found while fishing:

On August 3rd, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP were advised that a person was fishing along the Kitimat River, and had reeled in suspicious looking bones. Kitimat RCMP officers responded and located the suspicious bones. After a consult with the BC Coroner service and an anthropologist, it was found the bones were from a bear. (2023-2918)

Cause a disturbance:

The Kitimat RCMP received a call of an intoxicated subject that was causing a disturbance and gotten into a random vehicle on the 800 block of Tsimshian Blvd, during the very early morning hours of August 4th, 2023. A male was located in the passenger side of a vehicle and arrested for mischief, Due to the level of intoxication the male was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells and released the later that morning without charge. Driving complaint:

A driving complaint was received by the Kitimat RCMP on August 5th, 2023. It was reported that a vehicle passed another vehicle on Haisla Blvd in an unsafe manner and in a non-passing lane. Investigation revealed there was a video of the incident and a license plate number was provided. The registered owner was contacted and received a violation ticket, as the registered owner, for passing on a double solid yellow line and drive without due care and attention (2023-2948)

Single vehicle collision:

During the afternoon of August 6th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 37, near the Kitimat River Bridge. A Kitimat RCMP officer attended and located a heavily damaged vehicle that was travelling north bound and had gone off road right, hitting trees and bushes. Investigation revealed that an animal had run out in front of the vehicle, causing the driver to swerve. Luckily the driver was not injured. Even though the animal was clipped, it fled from the scene. (2023-2966)

Excessive speed:

While making routine patrols during the evening of August 7th, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer located a vehicle traveling at almost twice the speed limit along Haisla Blvd. The officer noticed the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and was able to confirm the speed with the use of the RADAR unit. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket. The vehicle was also impounded for 7 days. (2023-2980)

Prohibited driver:

While making proactive patrols in the Kitimat area on August 8th, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer located a vehicle that was flagged as the registered owner was a prohibited driver. A traffic stop was initiated and it was found the registered owner was operating the vehicle and they were in fact a prohibited driver. As a result, the driver was arrested for driving while prohibited, then released on an appearance notice with a future court date. The vehicle was impounded as well. (2023-2994)

Suspicious bag:

A report of a bad smelling bag, with something obviously rotting in it along the Kitamaat Village road was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on August 9th, 2023. The contents of the bag were unknown, but the complainant was concerned. A Kitimat RCMP officer attended and located the item. Investigation revealed that the bag had several dead fish in it. (2023-3010)
