Kitimat RCMP Weekly Report September 2nd – September 13th

Highway 37 enforcement:

On September 2nd between 7pm and 1 am, the Kitimat RCMP conducted a road check on Highway 37 near Onion Lake. During the check stop 8 notice and orders, 12 violation tickets were issued. In addition one 24 hour driving prohibition by drugs was issued.

Bear call:

On September 3rd at 8:30 pm, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a bear call on Tweedsmuir Ave. Upon attendance a black bear was observed in a tree across from a residence. BC Conservation Officer Service was advised and no further action was taken. 

Unwanted guest:

On September 5th at 7:15 pm, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a unwanted male inside a residence. An officer attended and spoke to the complainant who stated that the male was causing issues and was intoxicated. An officer spoke to the male who agreed to leave the residence. 

Consume liquor in public:

On September 6th at 8:20 pm, the Kitimat RCMP received a complaint of a male drinking alcohol in the Mountainview Square area. An officer arrived and located a male drinking alcohol. The officer requested that the alcohol be poured out and confirmed that the male was able to care for himself. 

Impaired – 90-day immediate driving prohibition: 

On September 7 at 10:50 pm, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver. An officer located the vehicle and conducted a vehicle stop. The driver had a strong odour of liquor and other signs of impairment. A breath demand was read. The driver blew a fail on the roadside screening device. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impoundment. 

Theft:

On September 9th at 2:10 pm, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a complaint of a theft of a back pack from the lower City Centre mall. Two suspects on bicycles stole a back pack that was described as light blue with black straps and contained a cell phone. The file remains under investigation. 

Traffic complaint:

On September 12th at 1:00 pm the Kitimat RCMP responded to a complaint of a flatbed truck blocking the roadway at Haisla Blvd and Kuldo Blvd. The driver advised that the vehicle had run out of gas and that he was on his way to the gas station. Police directed traffic until the driver returned. 

Assist general public:

On September 13th at 2:45 pm, the Kitimat RCMP were requested to assist Kitimat Fire and Rescue check the well-being on a resident at an apartment. Entry was gained with the assistance of a property manager. Upon attendance the resident was located and was watching a movie with headphones on.
