Cheque fraud:

On October 12th, the victim of an alleged fraud attended the Kitimat RCMP Detachment. It was reported that the victim’s friend had contacted them to assist in cashing a cheque after selling a car. The cheques were cashed, money provided, then the cheques turned out to be fraudulently created, as such the bank was unable to honor them. The investigation is ongoing. (2023-3928)

Broken window:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a broken window in a business located on the 300 block of Haisla Ave, in Kitamaat Village on October 14th. It was believed the window would have been broken overnight. There were no items located in the area that would have caused the window to break and it did not appear the business was entered. If anyone had heard anything in the area, please contact the contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111 or you can report to the Northern BC Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and you can remain anonymous. Intoxicated in public:

During the evening of October 14th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of an unknown male who entered a business, walked into restricted areas and would not speak to the staff. Kitimat RCMP officers attended the business, located on the 700 block of Lahakas Blvd N and located the male. It was found that he was intoxicated, as such was arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public. The male was released from cells, without charge, once sober. (2023-3968)

Passed out in business:

The Kitimat RCMP responded to a report of a patron falling asleep at a business located on the 100 block of City Centre, on October 16th. The responding officer’s investigation revealed that the patron has consumed alcohol, to an extent that it caused them to pass out. A family member was contacted who was able to take the patron home and care for them. (2023-3972)

Tree hazard:

During the morning commute on October 16th, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a tree that had fallen onto a powerline on Kuldo Blvd, near Duncan St. The attending Kitimat RCMP officer located the hazard and determined the roadway should be closed for a short period of time. Two officers blocked off the area, until flaggers were able to be assembled. Direction was provided by BC Hydro as to what distance should be kept from the hazard, until their crews could attend to deal with the matter. (2023-3977)

Drug impaired:

On October 16th, the Kitimat RCMP received of a report of a driver that appeared to be passed out near a residence in the Whitesail neighborhood. The driver was woken up by the responding officers, who then started the vehicle. The driver was promptly arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The investigation revealed the driver was impaired by drugs, resulting in the driver receiving a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle being impounded. (2023-3983)

Assault police officer:

While attending a business, located on the 500 block of Mountain View Square, during the evening of October 16th, a suspect was being arrested for theft. During the arrest, the intoxicated male punched, kicked and spat on the officer. After being taken into custody, the male was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells. Once sober, the male was released from cells with a court date to answer to the charges of theft under $5000 and assault a peace officer. (2023-3990)

Break, enter and theft:

Kitimat RCMP officers were recalled to the scene of a mischief that had been reported earlier in the week on the 300 block of Haisla Ave in Kitamaat Village on October 18th. The earlier report was regarding a broken window, which had been temporarily repaired. Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect had removed the items used to block the broken window, entered the building and stolen some items. The investigation to identify the suspect is still ongoing.
